Summer is Flying By!
Well, we are having a very busy, but fun summer here at our home. Besides doing the round-the-clock-remodel we have been doing some other varied activities to keep us sane. (Okay, to keep ME sane. All work and no play makes for a monotonous life!) Cassie, Isaac, and Seth are keeping VERY busy with their jobs at a local berry processing plant. Lots of hours, lots of money, and very little sleep. But they seem to be enjoying it. Natasha is loving her new job (she recently was promoted to clerk at the library) and since she is out of school for the summer, she has been able to have a bit more time at home.
Cassie's birthday was on May 6th, before she came home from college. She and Isaac both wanted to wait to celebrate their birthdays together (Isaac's is May 21st) so we did that once she was home and the dust had settled. Here the kids are displaying some of the gifts that Isaac and Cassie received.
For Dad's and Mom's 55th wedding anniversary, all four of us kids and our spouses met at Red Lobster (Mmmmm...) and had a wonderful evening of eating, visiting, and laughing.
For Seth's 15th birthday we went to the Boeing Museum of Flight. Titus and Abigail each took turns taking a spin in this Blue Angel. Next thing I knew, Seth had climbed aboard and was taking it for a flight.
And Cassie was hitting her forehead saying, "Please tell me that is not my brother!"
Here we have the traditional picture of all the kids holding some of the birthday person's gifts (in this case, Seth's) so mom can take a picture. I don't know what all the goofy faces are about.
And I just have to show you my beautiful Christmas Cactus! I always kill these plants, but for some strange reason, I have two cacti right now that are healthy and blooming! I don't know why, so I don't know if they will ever bloom again. But I'm enjoying the pleasure of this accomplishment while it lasts.
Other news is that we (mostly Abby, Titus, and I for now. Jim and the boys work at it in the evenings when time permits) continue to tear off framework, separate wood, pull nails, etc. We had the cedar shakes off by the end of June which was my goal. My next goal is to have all of the framework off by July 27th when the four oldest kids and I leave for WCWC. We will be gone for 10 days. Hopefully it will be a very refreshing and renewing time so that when we get back we can knock out the remodel in record time. We should have our permits by then so all will be a "GO!" Hope you all are having a great summer!

Great post! I especially like the pics of the Christmas cactus, Cassie hitting her forehead, and the goofy one of Seth's birthday.
The title of your blog TOTALLY fits. The summer IS flying by. I can't believe it was over a week ago we had the work party. Love you!
Abigail
Summer is practically over at our house. Paden goes back the 5th I think, and then we'll have to start thinking about school.
You've got quite a project going with your house. To me that sounds like a good excuse for lots of carry out dinners!
You honestly "don't know what all the goofy faces are about"???
And you've known these people *how* long???
I love it; great pictures, great post!
Of course!
Yes. summer is flying by. How do I know? Peaches are in season!! I want to put some up for Fraser before we all head to Moscow on Aug. 4th. It feels like that should be the official end of summer. I keep having to remind myself there's still the rest of the month.
Hope those permits come thrugh and she's right lots of carry out soulndx good. Except up here we say take out..
Isaac is adorable. So is your Christmas cactus
through sounds - I can spell, I just can't type.( as I correct my spelling of the word spell)
so what is it like having a house of BIG kids now?
Hello Mrs. U!!
It's so nice to be missed.....and now I've finally returned to xanga! *smiles* Where have I been? Well...... I've been working at VBS and counselling at a family summer camp, working, and getting ready for some more trips coming up this summer. Some friends and I leave for VA on saturday...I'm very excited!
Looks like you guys have been having a good summer....that's so wonderful! (I always love it when people have picture posts)
Hope you continue doing well!

Re: your Arshmallows comment. We showed up that Sunday without telling our friends we were coming. Linda told me that Lizza was eating her arshmallows and told her "when I eat them all, Belle will come and bring me more!"
Good post Mom!
I am so glad you posted again. I like the one of Seth in the Blue Angel and the one of your Christmas Cactus.
Grandpa, Grandma, Uncle Steve, Uncle Dan, Uncle Gary, Aunt Gail, Aunt Debbie, Dad, and you must of had a wonderful time at Red Lobster. I am so glad you post often.
I like the picture of all of us kids being weird and the one of all of us kids holding all the presents. The name of the post is a good one. (Summer is Flying By.) I like the picture of Cassie hitting her head to.

Wow! I find the Christmas cactus especially impressive. My mom can't grow them, either! She had one that was in stasis for years - it didn't die, but it wouldn't grow or bloom! When you figure out the secret, let me know.
I'm afraid the cactus wins
I think I'm going to adopt your tradition of taking a picture with all the kids together on their birthdays. Great idea. I can't imagine that my kids will ever be that big.
Summer just CAN'T fly by, since we have so much more work to do to the house. Maybe we should try to have another work party when you get back from WCWC. You always have such good posts. Red Lobster was very nice, we need to do that again sometime soon.
I love seeing pictures of your kids having fun together! & your parents' celebration, too.
No one has played in the treehouse in years, but we started thinking it would be fun to enlarge it & give it another go. The new fence makes a difference. Somehow it seems more fun being out in the yard now that we have a privacy fence around the girls' old play area. We're doing more cooking out & such. Well, also the park near our house is underwater, so we're doing more stuff at home.
Good for you! I'm not very good at gardening, and admire people who are. My garden at the moment consists of: one (1) tomato plant, one (1) jalapeno pepper plant, some sweet potato vines (planted on a whim when some sweet potatoes started sprouting), rosemary, oregano & peppermint.
You must try sweet potatoes! They are very good. They grow easily here. I'm not sure how different the climate is. Not as much so as I used to think, though.
How seriously cool! How high up is their treehouse? Did he manage to arrange running water & electricity & such?
Good post goldilocks 41!
17 comments? That's not bad Mom. I like your new picture. It is a good one.

I don't do driving. Not even for chocolate.
My african violet is like your cactus. It just gets in the right mood for some reason and decides to bloom. And like your cactus it's blooming right now and looking beautiful.
Ambitious project?!? I think your project is much more so!
I enjoyed this post -- looks like ya'll are having a great time together!
Not that I know of. At least, there is no evidence of tomatoes or anything else on the walls.
It was for the teen prizes, which only three people are authorized to give out, and none of them were working last night. C was telling the evening shift that if the teens came in for their prizes, tell them they needed to come back tomorrow (today).
When Fraser left for work this morning, we both expected he'd be home by lunch. But he didn't come home and he didn't come and I had visions of him getting soaked. When he did come home he was dry as could be. He's been painting under balconies.
Productive days are satisfying even if you wind up doing something completely different from what you expected. Now you won't need to spend a sunny day shopping.
I like the picture of Cassie!!
Maybe, but we don't have any giraffes.
We're gone the second of those three Sundays - Trinity Festival. I can't believe it . 2 holidays in one year. And Claire will get to meet quite a number of her online friends.
Have fun and we'll see you when you get back.
Yes, your daughter is very talented I guess!
